The Constitution highlights the guiding principles of the Indian Student Organisation. It forms the foundation on which the organisation is based. All our members are bound by the Constitution and uphold it with the greatest esteem and regard. We at INDIAN STUDENT ORGANISATION (ISO) have unflinching faith and conviction in the following ideas: 1) Unity and integrity of INDIA is sacred and non-negotiable. 2) Indian Philosophy that explain the unique definition of how the relationship between any individual should be with the society / nature / creation / creator, etc and its distinct concept of human happiness / peace provides the basis for meeting the multi-pronged challenges the world community is facing today. 3) Uphold the idea of secularism The central point of ISO organisational endeavours is to WORK for the upliftment of education sector and start a powerful national movement in the wider perspective of national re-constructions. The vision, bearings and nature of work of ISO are based on these fundamental doctrines. The Concept of Educational Family - Educational family, we believe, comprises of student, teacher, educationist and educational administrator. Students are at the centre of this family but teachers are the natural guardians of the family. Constructive Approach - Being in an independent nation and working for national reconstruction, our approach has to be essentially creative & constructive and not at all destructive. Two basic guiding principles of our creative and constructive approach are: First Person Point-of-view – It means whatever we think and wish, we should implement on ourselves first. Sense of Duty - Inspires us to make honest contribution to the society & nation and deem it our natural duty. ROLE OF INDIAN STUDENT ORGANISATION: 1.To organize the students in schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions of the country and also Indian students studying abroad under its banner to build a powerful and well-knit student movement for the upliftment and betterment of the student community. 2. To take active interest in the struggle for liquidation of the evil legacies of colonialism and for building in our country an independent, democratic and socialist society to ensure a prosperous and progressive future for our people. 3. To establish a democratic, scientific and progressive educational system. 4. To organize the student community in the struggles of the wider democratic movement of the workers, peasants, and other progressive forces and to seek their cooperation and support to achieve the immediate demands and aims. 5. To achieve the democratic rights of the student community- Right to democratic and independent expression and behaviour. Right to form student unions and associations and right to assemble - Right to participate in the management of all educational institutions and of all bodies connected with the academic and other affairs of student life. 6. To work for free universal and compulsory education up to secondary stage. 7. To struggle for guarantee of employment after completion of education or unemployment grants till employed and fight for the recognition of the right to work as a constitutionally guaranteed fundamental right. 8. To fight against every manifestation of, and oppression or discrimination based on, religion, caste, language, race, region or gender and to work for secularism, communal harmony, amity and equality of all. 9. To extend warm solidarity to all the progressive forces of the world struggling for freedom, national independence and socialism. 10. To establish fraternal and friendly relations with all other student organizations, which are pledged to work for secularism, democracy and socialism and to have united action with other student organizations on specific issues. Article I-A Flag The flag of the Indian Student Organisation shall be Blue in colour with the logo of the organisation at the centre. Article II -Constituents The Organisation will include: - Advisory Body Core/Central Committee State Committee District Committees Block Committees College Committees Article III- Headquarter The headquarter of the organisation will be situated at H/no- 47, MG Path, Bhagaduttapur, Beltola, Guwahati-28, Assam. Article IV- Membership a. (i) Any person of the age of 12 or over, who accepts Article I, shall, on making a written declaration in membership form and on payment of Rs. 5.00 only as subscription for five years become a Member of the Organisation provided that he/she is not a member of any of any communal or terrorist organisation (ii) No person shall be eligible to become a member except at his permanent place of residence or at a place where he carries on his business or work; (iii) Permanent Register of members within their jurisdiction shall be maintained by every District and College committees (vi) Renewal of membership will be deemed to have been completed by depositing requisite membership fee. . (i) A person who has been a member for at least three years shall only be eligible to be elected as a delegate or an office bearer of any post of the organisation (ii) In case no elections are conducted office bearers will be selected by the advisory body. (B) Every Member will have to fulfil the following conditions and make a declaration in Membership Form under his/her signature: (a) He/She is of age 15 and over; (b) He/She neither believes in nor practices untouchability in any shape or form and undertakes to work for its removal; (c) He/She believes in an integrated society without distinction of religion or caste; (d) He/She subscribes to and works for promoting the principles of secularism, socialism and democracy; does not, directly or indirectly, openly or otherwise, adversely criticise the accepted policies and programmes of the party, except through party forums; (C) RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP Membership may be renewed by filling up the membership Form. Rule Under Article V – Membership forms: The Membership will be done through both online and offline mode. Article VI- Term of Committee The term of every Indian Student Organisation and of its Office bearers, Executive Committee and members shall ordinarily be five years. The meetings of the State Committee, their Executive Committees shall ordinarily be held regularly within the stipulated time frame as prescribed in rules. Article VI-A Reservation for Women/SC/ST/OBC Minorities (a) 33% of the seats at different Committees shall be reserved for the women. (b) Not less than 20% of the Seats shall be reserved at different Committees for SCs/STs/OBCs and Minorities & Others Rule Under Article VI (ii) – Meetings of Organisation: All the members shall meet at least once in six months at their respective districts. Article VII- Register: executive members in the meeting called to amend the constitution of the organisation. Each member presents the meeting will have one vote.
