New Delhi is likely to raise the issue of illegal migrants with Dhaka during the first bilateral talk between the home ministers of both the countries in the 2nd term of the Narendra Modi-led government.

Union home minister Amit Shah is likely to raise the issue when Bangladesh home minister Asaduzzaman Khan will visit New Delhi on August 7.

Government sources said that issues like anti-terror cooperation, cattle smuggling through border areas, smuggling of arms and ammunition are also likely to be discussed during the talks.

This will be the first interaction that Shah will have with the Bangladesh home minister after assuming charge as the country’s home minister.

Shah is known to have a tough stand on the issue of unabated illegal immigration from Bangladesh.

This meeting assumes much more significance as Bangladesh on earlier occasions claimed that India has never raised the issue of illegal Bangladeshis with Dhaka.
