At least two persons were hospitalized in critical condition after clash broke out between supporters of ruling CPI-M and opposition BJP in Kamalpur sub-division under remote Dhalai district of poll bound Tripura.
Supporters of both the parties point accusing fingers at each other for destroying their party flags and festoons on Thursday night which led to hot altercation followed by fight and heavy brick pelting until a large posse of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police dispersed tear gas cell and sec 144 has been imposed in the area.
Meantime, several supporters from both sides were injured including two in critical condition who were later referred to other hospital for better treatment.
Local CPI-M MLA Anjan Das said, “In Baliganj village our party flags and festoons were destroyed by BJP goons. Protesting the incident our party workers took out a rally. The armed BJP goons attacked the rally. In the attack three of our party supporters including comrade Ratish Ghosh were injured. Ratish has been referred to GB hospital for better treatment while others are admitted in this hospital.”
He added that the local people are protesting against this attack and BJP is trying to create a violent situation while CPI-M wants a peaceful election.
Meantime, local BJP leader Prasanta Singha alleged the party in power has been destroying the polling materials and attacking opposition supporters but most unfortunate part is that despite repeated complaints to the competent authority they fail to take any action against them.
Singha said, “For the last many days we have been complaining to the authority against the CPI-M cadres who in accordance to their tradition have been destroying poll decorative items.”
“Two days back in Baliganj area when we reported it to their local leadership they put these back to their original shape by the evening. Again during the night the flags and posters were destroyed which agitated our supporters,” he added.
Singha alleged that the BJP minority cell president Abdul Gafur was attacked by the CPI-M supporters when he went to the hospital to see whether anyone has been injured or not.
