In another case of alleged violation of the model code of conduct, cash amounting to Rs 6.4 lakh was seized by a team of flying squad while conducting a check at Hallydayganj under Selsella Assembly Constituency at about 10:45 am on Sunday.
Selsella (ST) Assembly seat is going to by-election simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls to Tura and Shillong Lok Sabha constituencies on April 11.
Chief electoral officer, F R Kharkongor said that while checking was conducted by the flying squad team near Hallydayganj at about 10:45 am under Hallydayganj Police Station, an amount of Rs 4,80,000 was seized from one Saha and another amount of Rs 1,60,000 was also seized from one F Seikh at about 11:00 am.
“The seized money has been kept in safe custody of Tura Treasury strong room,” Kharkongor said.
With this seizure on Sunday, around Rs 55 lakh has been seized so far from various districts in the State.
