Imphal: Security forces arrested three active insurgents, including two members of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) and one from the UNLF (MPA) Pambei group, during separate anti-extortion operations in Manipur on Thursday.

A team of Bishnupur Commandos (CDO) arrested 27-year-old Sanjenbam Sanju Singh, a member of PREPAK (Pro), from his native village of Khabi Mayai Leikai. Police said the arrest followed specific intelligence inputs linking him to alleged extortion activities in the area.

In a separate operation in the Kumbi Sagolpat area, Bishnupur Commandos arrested another alleged PREPAK (Pro) cadre. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Laishram Rohit Meitei, who originally belonged to Tuibong Meitei Leikai in Churachandpur district and was recently residing at Laisoi Relief Camp. Officials said he was arrested for his suspected involvement in extortion demands.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Kakching Commandos and security forces arrested a suspected UNLF (MPA) Pambei group cadre during a raid at his residence in Kakching Khunou Umathel.

The arrested individual was identified as 46-year-old Khumukcham Ramesh Meitei, alias Panthung. Officials said he was operating under the jurisdiction of Waikhong Police Station and was wanted in connection with alleged local extortion activities.
