Imphal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested three more suspects in connection with two separate insurgency-related cases in Manipur, including an April 2024 IED blast that killed two children and an armed ambush targeting the convoy of former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
In the first case, the agency arrested 48-year-old Thangmang Haokip on September 25 over his alleged involvement in the April 7, 2024 IED attack at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district.
The blast, which was reportedly triggered from a nearby hillside, killed two children and injured another member of the same family. Haokip’s arrest comes after the NIA detained another accused, S Palal Thadou Kuki, in August.
An Imphal special court has remanded Haokip to 12 days of police custody.
In a separate investigation, the NIA arrested Jangminlun Singson, 44, and Thangjoel Haokip, 21, in connection with the June 10, 2024 armed ambush on the convoy of then-Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Kangpokpi district.
The latest arrests bring the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the convoy attack to four.
The NIA is continuing investigations into both cases as it works to identify other individuals allegedly linked to the attacks and trace the wider networks involved.
