Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police conducted a series of coordinated operations across the state on September 30, leading to the arrest of several suspected insurgent cadres, recruiters, an alleged extortionist and a vehicle lifter, officials said.
Acting on intelligence inputs about the alleged movement of a senior Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) [PREPAK (PRO)] cadre from Myanmar through Kamjong, security forces set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in the Chandrakhong area.
During vehicle checks, personnel apprehended Moirangthem Boboy Singh alias Laingam, 56, who was identified as a self-styled captain of PREPAK (PRO) and a resident of Kakmayai Mayai Leikai.
During interrogation, Singh allegedly disclosed his involvement in recruiting four teenagers from Bishnupur and facilitating their movement to Myanmar.
In another operation, Imphal East Police raided an area in Khurai Puthiba Leikai and arrested 46-year-old Nepram Singhajit Singh, an alleged active member of the Revolutionary Peopleโs Front/Peopleโs Liberation Army (RPF/PLA).
According to the police investigation, Singh was allegedly involved in recruiting new cadres and had travelled to the area to arrange bus tickets for transporting recruits towards Ukhrul.
Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Police and security forces apprehended two juvenile alleged PLA cadres near Border Pillar 87 at Yangoupokpi during a separate operation.
Extortionist arrested in Churachandpur
In Churachandpur district, personnel from Churachandpur Police Station conducted an operation at Khomoi village based on intelligence inputs and arrested 44-year-old Letginthang Haokip, a resident of ST Chullouphai Village.
Police alleged that Haokip had been extorting money from members of the public by claiming to represent various armed organisations. A mobile phone and Rs 10,000 in cash were recovered from his possession.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Vehicle lifter held in Lilong
In another operation, a Lilong Police team arrested 21-year-old Md. Mustakim from his residence at Lilong Chaobak Mairenkhun in connection with an alleged vehicle theft.
Police recovered a blue metallic Honda Activa DLX, bearing registration number MN01AN-9328, which had reportedly been stolen from the North AOC area of Imphal.
Further investigation into the arrests and alleged activities of the accused is underway.
