A former Ranji player, identified as Mujamil Haque, landed in police net in Guwahati on charges of possessing banned drugs on Thursday.
According to media reports, on a tip-off the police arrested Haque from a rented house located at Barsapara Rolling Mill under Fatashil Ambari Police Station in Guwahati on Thursday.
He was arrested along with drugs at around 9.30 am.
The seized 28 gms of Heroin, Nitrosum and 200 Pasmo Progesic Plus tablets, two cartons of Cefrex Cough Syrup, 120 bottles of Corex Cough Syrup and cash Rs 12,500 from the possession of the ex-Ranji player.
The ex-Ranji player was also arrested with drugs earlier.
It has been reported, the former Ranji player was also involved in drug peddling.
Mujamil Haque is currently under the custody of Fatashil Ambari police.
From time to time banned drugs are seized by the Government Railway Police from trains during checking.
On February 11, 2018, the police arrested the son of a former police official in Guwahati for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
The arrested youth was identified as Minkumoni Deka alias Maina, 36, who is a son of retired inspector Monmohan Deka.
Minkumoni was arrested with 10 grams of heroin, worth Rs 1 lakh from his residence at Noonmati in Guwahati.
In a recent case, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in the early morning on december 15, 2018 arrested a person and seized a huge consignment of suspected ganja from the down Rajdhani Express at Guwahati Govt Railway Police Station.
Official sources had said, “The train checking staff of Guwahati GRPS during routine checking at 5:30 am today (Saturday) recovered suspected ganja, approximately 25 kg, during checking of train No 20505 Down Rajdhani Express (Coach No. A/ 3) from the possession of a person identified as Pappu Singh, aged 43 years.”
The accused, Pappu Singh, is the son of Nagen Singh of Bibiganj village under Udyant Nagar Police Station in Bhojpur district of Bihar.
