Lakhimpur bus accident

North Lakhimpur: A passenger was killed when a sleeper bus travelling from Guwahati to Kamalabari in Assam’s Majuli met with an accident in Lakhimpurโ€™s Nowboicha area early on Friday morning.

The mishap occurred on NH-15 near the Singra Bridge at Dolahat Tiniali under Laluk Police Station when the bus (AR 01 W 1144) overturned around 4 a.m.

Most passengers were asleep at the time of the accident. More than 50 passengers were injured, several of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

The deceased has been identified as Deep Jyoti Bora of Pohardiya village in Majuli.

According to a survivor, the bus was swerving abnormally for a considerable distance before it overturned after hitting a tree.

Local residents from the area rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and assisted in rescue and emergency medical operations.

According to a local resident, the 108 ambulance arrived after a delay of around half an hour, and the same ambulance had to make three trips to transport the injured to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital in North Lakhimpur.
