North Lakhimpur: The ruling BJP alliance (BJP+) registered a dominant performance in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, winning all but one Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) as counting of votes concluded on Monday.

The Indian National Congress (INC) managed to secure a lone victory in Nowboicha, preventing a complete sweep by the BJP-led alliance.

Two incumbent BJP legislators from the district retained their seats with comfortable margins. In 76 Lakhimpur LAC, sitting MLA Manab Deka defeated Congress candidate Ghana Buragohain by a margin of 25,656 votes. Deka secured 67,186 votes, while Buragohain polled 42,530.

In 77 Dhakuakhana (ST) LAC, incumbent MLA Naba Kumar Doley continued his winning streak, defeating Congress rival Ananda Narah by a margin of 50,072 votes. Doley secured 92,123 votes compared to Narahโ€™s 42,051, marking his fourth consecutive victory from the constituency since 2011.

In 73 Bihpuria LAC, BJP candidate Bhupen Borah emerged victorious over Congress nominee Narayan โ€œRamโ€ Bhuyan by 8,866 votes. Borah, who had switched from Congress to BJP ahead of the elections, received 73,050 votes against Bhuyanโ€™s 64,814.

Meanwhile, in the newly formed 74 Ranganadi LAC, BJPโ€™s Rishiraj Hazarika defeated Congress candidate Jayanta Khaund by a margin of 19,461 votes. Hazarika secured 82,105 votes, while Khaund polled 62,644.

The Congressโ€™ only win in the district came from 75 Nowboicha (SC) LAC, where its candidate Joy Prakash Das defeated Basanta Das of the Asom Gana Parishad (an ally of the BJP) by 13,262 votes. Joy Prakash Das secured 53,804 votes, while Basanta Das received 40,542.

With this outcome, the BJP alliance won most seats in Lakhimpur district, while Congress secured one seat in Nowboicha.
