Imphal: A Tangkhul Naga woman abducted by armed militants from Namlee village in Manipur’s Kamjong district was safely rescued by Assam Rifles on May 9, 2026.
She was abducted on May 7, 2026, by the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone (VVEZ) following a violent cross-border attack.
The woman was taken from Namlee village on May 7, 2026, and rescued following coordinated operations by Assam Rifles and intelligence agencies, according to reports. The release took place south of Z Choro village in the same district.
The incident was part of a larger pre-dawn assault on Tangkhul Naga villages along the India-Myanmar border, during which around 30 houses were burned and nearly 300 villagers were displaced.
Following her release, she was taken to Humine Thana and later to the Assam Rifles unit headquarters at Chassad for medical examination and documentation.
A defence wing press statement issued on Saturday stated that multiple rescue teams were deployed during the operation, and ten houses affected by the violence were secured.
Fifteen villagers, including women and children, were rescued and shifted to the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp, where humanitarian assistance was provided.
A woman injured during the incident was also given first aid and medical evacuation support. The incident was described as an act of “external aggression” involving foreign elements.
