Guwahati: The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected BJP-led NDA government in Assam will be held on May 12 at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, along with industry representatives, are expected to attend the ceremony.

Kota said a high-level review meeting was held with Director General of Police Harmeet Singh to assess preparations for the Prime Ministerโ€™s visit and the oath-taking ceremony of the new Council of Ministers.

In a post on X, the chief secretary said discussions focused on security arrangements, traffic management, venue preparedness, protocol compliance and inter-departmental coordination.

He said all departments concerned have been directed to maintain the highest level of preparedness to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the ceremony.

The BJP has appointed Union minister J P Nadda as observer and Naib Singh Saini as co-observer for the election of the BJP Legislature Party leader, which is likely to be held on May 10.

The NDA returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term after winning 102 of the 126 Assembly seats. The BJP secured 82 seats, while its allies โ€” the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 10 seats each.
