Imphal: The Manipur government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) and project implementing agencies under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana 2.0 to provide employment opportunities for rural youth.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen attended the signing ceremony via video conference from the Main Conference Hall at the Secretariat in Mantripukhri.
The Chief Minister said the initiative would provide structured skill training to rural youth and help them become self-reliant. He expressed confidence that the partnership would create sustainable livelihood and employment opportunities across Manipur.
Officials said the MSRLM operates in rural villages, blocks and districts across the state to address poverty by building grassroots institutions.
Set up by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, the mission works to reduce poverty and coordinate socio-economic empowerment programmes.
The mission focuses on vulnerable groups, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, single women, persons with disabilities, landless labourers and communities in disturbed areas.
Its strategy has three main components: improving existing livelihoods, providing vocational skills that can lead to employment, and supporting micro-entrepreneurs.
Officials said the mission aims to help people overcome poverty through social mobilisation and support.
The agency also works through village-level institutions to improve accountability and inclusiveness in local governance and coordinate state and central resources to support long-term economic independence.
