The new administrative block was inaugurated by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.

Dibrugarh: In a significant boost to higher education infrastructure in Upper Assam, the Laxmi Narayan Kanoi Administrative Bhawan at Dibru College was formally inaugurated on Monday. The state-of-the-art building, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 1.5 crore, is a project of the Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation and marks a major milestone in the collegeโ€™s development.

The new administrative block was inaugurated by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu in the presence of Power Minister Prasanta Phukan, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Prof. Jiten Hazarika, ATDC Ltd Chairman Rituparna Baruah, and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Pegu acknowledged the contribution of the Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation and expressed gratitude to the Education Department, faculty members and students for their support. Highlighting the successful implementation of the Vidyanjali Scheme in Assam, he said the State has emerged as a frontrunner under the initiative, with nearly 1.2 lakh benches donated to schools across various regions.

He urged donors to ensure proper record-keeping and registration of contributions through the Vidyanjali Portal to maintain transparency. Emphasising the need for innovation in higher education, Pegu said the state is working toward new teaching methodologies with focused learning modules of 15โ€“20 minutes and greater emphasis on experiential learning. He also stressed the importance of improving placement percentages and expanding higher education institutions, including the provision of full-fledged residential hostel facilities.

The Administrative Bhawan has been constructed to streamline academic and administrative functions, thereby improving service delivery for students and faculty. The project reflects a strong public-private partnership aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure in the region.

Representatives of Dibru College, including Governing Body President Kalyan Bhuyan, Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation Chairman CA Jyoti Prasad Kanoi, and Principal Ranjan Changmai, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their support in completing the project.

The Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation has undertaken several community-focused initiatives in Dibrugarh, including installation of safe drinking water systems, solar-powered campus facilities, hostel improvements, healthcare outreach programmes such as cancer screening camps, and support during the COVID-19 pandemic through the provision of a specially equipped ambulance.

The Foundation has also promoted environmental awareness through vertical gardening projects and the district-wide โ€œStop Plasticโ€ campaign, distributing thousands of cloth bags. It continues to support scholarships for underprivileged students and initiatives fostering youth leadership and cultural development.

Established on August 16, 1963, Dibru College is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Dibrugarh. Located near Jalan Nagar Tea Estate, the college currently serves over 3,600 students across higher secondary and undergraduate programmes.
