Dibrugarh: A cadre of the NSCN (Niki Sumi) group surrendered before security forces in the Khonsa area of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
The individual has been identified as Wangjong Wangsu (37), a self-styled lieutenant of NSCN (Niki Sumi) and a resident of Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to officials, security forces received specific intelligence inputs about his presence in and around the Khonsa Bazaar area. Acting on the information, a focused operation was launched on February 2. Field sources were activated to establish contact and persuade him to surrender peacefully.
Officials said continued engagement and dialogue led him to give up armed activities and return to the mainstream. He later agreed to surrender.
He was taken into custody by a joint team of the 44 Assam Rifles and 26 FIT. During the operation, security personnel recovered one .32 mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition, an appointment letter, and a walkie-talkie from his possession.
Security agencies stated that such operations reflect the effectiveness of intelligence-led efforts and coordinated action on the ground. Assam Rifles, along with other agencies, continues to work towards maintaining peace and encouraging individuals to reintegrate into society.
