Asomi, a cultural association of the Assamese people living in Pune of Maharashtra, organised a freshers’ party recently at English Language Teaching Institute of Symbiosis (ELTIS).

The function was organised to welcome the Assamese students and professionals, who have recently moved to the city to pursue their academic and other careers.

The event, which was attended by over 40 people from different colleges and organizations, saw a total footfall of 130 people.

There were students, who have come to pursue undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses and specialization courses along with others who have come to the city in search of jobs or are engaged in jobs in different sectors.

“We welcome all our Assamese folks to the city and want to make sure they don’t feel that they are away from home, feel lonely and other issues associated with leaving home and moving to a new city,” said Bishmita Dutta, a core committee member of Asomi and a Spanish linguist professional based in Pune.

“We’re all like a big family and to support each other in times of need and make sure we all support and guide each other in terms of everything,” added Dutta.

The programme commenced with a semi-classical dance followed by a folk instrument ensemble which featured most of the folk instruments of Assam.

There were also a few fun activities planned for the youngsters in the crowd along with a few youth-oriented performances.

The event concluded with the presentation of the Mr. Fresher award to Rekib Ahmed, the Miss Fresher award to Komal Kristi Bora and the Intel Inside award to Pratiksha Deka.
