Imphal: A joint team of central and state security forces engaged in anti-insurgency operations busted two insurgent camps allegedly set up at sensitive locations in Manipurโs Churachandpur and Imphal West districts, officials reported on Thursday.
A substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered during the operations conducted on the eve of Christmas Day.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security forces comprising the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles carried out a swift operation and recovered the illegal items from an abandoned camp at the Thangjing forest foothill area under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district.
Although no arrests were made during the operation, the following items were recovered:
(i) one pumpi, 8 feet in length;
(ii) 12 pumpi shells;
(iii) nine 7.62ร39 mm empty cases;
(iv) one modified MP5 rifle with magazine;
(v) ammunition for a modified MP5 rifle; and
(vi) one country-made single-barrel rifle.
In another operation, the joint forces recovered several illegal items from the adjoining areas of Lambal and Haorang Keirel under Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West district:
(i) one single-barrel gun;
(ii) three pistols, each with a magazine;
(iii) three bolt-action rifles;
(iv) seven white phosphorus (WP) grenades;
(v) one high-explosive (HE) grenade with detonator;
(vi) 23 mini flare cartridges;
(vii) eight 12-bore cartridges;
(viii) 28 live rounds of different calibres;
(ix) one empty 7.62 SLR cartridge case; and
(x) two Baofeng radio sets with a charger.
Officials said the recovered items were later transferred to the concerned police stations, and further legal proceedings were initiated.
