Assam Rifles (AR) nabbed two alleged cadres of the proscribed PLA.

Imphal: Assam Rifles (AR) personnel apprehended two alleged cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and rescued a ‘misguided’ youth in the Manipur sector along the Indo-Myanmar border on Saturday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, AR troops laid a trap near Border Pillars 86/87 in the Moreinthel, Yangoupokpi, and Songtang regions, said an Assam Rifles official.

The apprehended PLA rebels, identified as Ningolbam Priyo Singh (21) and Saikhom Devajit Singh (21), confessed to being cadres of the banned outfit, the official said.

They were caught while attempting to cross the border from Myanmar into Manipur, he added.

In a separate incident, AR facilitated the safe return of a youth who had been coerced into joining the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in February.

The youth underwent primary training in a Myanmar camp. The emotional reunion with his family took place on October 20 in Pallel, Manipur, according to the AR official.
