Imphal: Manipur’s proscribed insurgent group Kangleipak Communist Party, People’s War Group (Military Council, Unification) has expressed concern over recent arrests of its cadres.

In a statement, the KCP-PWG said that the outfit is currently engaged in peace talks with both the central and state governments, and such actions of the Manipur police could jeopardize the peace process.

On October 22, six KCP-PWG cadres were arrested by Manipur police on extortion charges.

The group denies these allegations, claiming the arrests occurred while the cadres were shopping in civilian clothes.

The outfit emphasized the importance of peace in the region, urging authorities to refrain from harassing or arresting its members. They warned that continued arrests could jeopardize the ongoing peace talks.

While the United National Liberation Front, the Panmei group, recently signed a peace agreement with the Indian government, other underground outfits in Manipur remain active.
