A suspected drug supplier has accused the police of shooting him at point-blank range and trying to frame the entire situation as an encounter in Assam’s Biswanath.

The accused person speaking to the media alleged that the police had shot him from point-blank range.

He claimed that after he was arrested on charges of being involved in contraband drug dealing, the police told him that they would take him for a medical test.

“However, while on our way, I was blindfolded and then one of the policemen shot me on my leg while others held me tightly”, he added.

The accused further stated that the police had also threatened to “blow up” his head if he made any disturbance to them.

Speaking to NorthEast Now, Superintendent of Police Leena Doley denying the allegation by Bhuyan said that the accused person named Shiva Bhuyan was arrested based on a confession of another accused.

She added that Shiva is a drug supplier who used to supply drugs in and around the Biswanath area.

“While we were interrogating the accused, we noticed several phone calls on his mobile from various people. All of them were asking for supplies”, she said.

Leena Doley further added that Bhuyan was taken out to show locations of other persons involved in the illegal trade but during the operation, he tried to flee from police custody.

He was given a warning by the police team to stop and a few blank fires were also executed but when he did not stop, he was shot in the leg.
