Union health ministry has sent letters to all states in the Northeast states stating that the Covid19 situation in some of the districts in the region need stringent containment measures.

The Union health ministry has asked the Northeast states to take immediate steps to bring down the Covid19 positivity rate down below 10%.

In separate letters addressed to the chief secretaries of all the eight northeastern states, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan highlighted that the positivity rate in some of the districts in Northeast remained above 10% for the last one week.

Apart from writing letters to all eight northeastern states, Bhushan also wrote similar letters to 7 other states across India witnessing Covid positivity above 10% in the last one week.

The letter suggested adopting strict containment in all such districts registering positivity above 10% and bed occupancy more than 60% on either oxygen supported or ICU beds.

The development took place at a time when India has been witnessing a decrease in Covid cases.

The number of mortalities is also coming down across India.
