With factionalism intensifying and rift widening within the BJP in Tripura, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) seems all set to stage a major upset.

If Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh is to be believed, a major turnaround in the State’s politics is likely to take place soon.

Speaking to this correspondent, Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh informed that around 13 top BJP leaders and 4 CPI-M leaders are in talks with the TMC.

“Around 13 BJP leaders and 4 CPI-M leaders, which include ex-ministers are in talks with us. Our party chief Mamata Banerjee will decide on whom to induct in the party,” said Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh.

The Tripura TMC president also informed that several top BJP and CPI-M leaders will join the TMC, most probably within a week.

“Within a week, many top BJP leaders and also CPI-M leaders are likely to join the TMC. They (BJP leaders) are in talks with us,” Singh said.

On the other hand, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and party top gun Mukul Roy are also likely to visit the State soon.

“People in Tripura are eagerly waiting for Mukul Roy’s visit to the State. It is certain that Roy will visit Tripura, but the schedule is yet to be decided,” Ashish Lal Singh said.

“They (TMC national leadership) are keeping a close watch on the political developments in Tripura,” he added.

The Tripura TMC president also said that a large number of workers from the BJP and the CPI-M have already joined the TMC.

“Of our total strength of 12,338 workers, 70% have come from the BJP and another 30% are from the CPI-M,” Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh further said.

“People in Tripura are fed up with the three years of misrule of the Biplab Deb-led BJP Government in the State,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that one faction within the Tripura BJP has been in direct conflict with Chief Minister Biplab Deb, ever since he removed senior party leader Sudip Roy Barman from the cabinet in 2019.

Notably, Tripura BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman is a loyalist of Mukul Roy, who recently had quit the BJP and re-joined the TMC.
