A large number of people came together to celebrate the Dol Yatra Mahotsav at the historic Sri Sri Vasudev Thaan Narowa Satra in Dhakuwakhona in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
The Dol Yatra Mahotsav is celebrated every year to mark the occasion of Holi.
The three-day day festival that marks the advent of spring concluded on Monday.
The Dol Yatra Mahotsav began on March 27 with locals participating in the Mesh Dah or the Adibas ceremony inside the premises of the Satra.
The second day of the festivities included Gandhaparva or Gossain Oluwa-Ghunusa Yatra where hundreds of people participated.
Various cultural programmes were also organized on the occasion in that historic Vaishnavite shrine founded in the mid-17th century.
According to folklore, the festival has been celebrated in the Satra since its restoration in the early 19th century after its desecration by the invading Burmese army.
The festival of colours was celebrated by people across the length and breadth of Assam.
Despite Covid-19 cases spiking in the state, young and old could be seen basking in the spirit of Holi.
