Over 30 Indian-Americans have been appointed by United States (US) President-elect Joe Biden to various posts in his administration, setting the stage for a more diverse White House.

US President-elect Joe Biden has appointed 3 Indian-Americans to his National Security Council.

The three ‘incredibly accomplished’ Indian-Americans appointed by Joe Biden are: Tarun Chhabra, Sumona Guha and Shanthi Kalathil.

Tarun Chhabra, a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University, is a first-generation American and a graduate of Stanford University, Oxford University, and Harvard Law School.

Tarun Chhabra will serve as Senior Director for Technology and National Security.

During the Barak Obama administration, Chhabra was a member of the National Security Council and served as Director for Strategic Planning and Director for Human Rights and National Security Issues.

Sumona Guha, Senior Vice President at Albright Stonebridge Group, was co-chair of the South Asia foreign policy working group on the Biden-Harris campaign.

Sumona Guha is also serving on the transition’s State Department Agency Review Team.

Guha has been appointed as Senior Director for South Asia.

During the Barak Obama administration, she served as Special Advisor for National Security Affairs to then Vice President Biden.

Earlier, she served as a Foreign Service Officer in the State Department and was also a member of the Secretary of State’s policy planning staff where her work focused on South Asia.

Sumona Guha is a graduate of John Hopkins and Georgetown University.

Meanwhile, former journalist Shanthi Kalathil has been appointed as Coordinator for Democracy and Human Rights in the Joe Biden administration.

At present Shanthi Kalathil is serving as the senior director of the International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy.

She had also served as a senior democracy fellow at the US Agency for International Development.

Earlier, Shanthi Kalathil was a Hong Kong-based reporter for the Asian Wall Street Journal.

Earlier, Joe Biden nominated Indian-American Vanita Gupta to be Associate Attorney General in the Department of Justice.

On the other hand, Indian-American Sabrina Singh has been named as the White House Deputy Press Secretary for the Joe Biden administration.

Indian-American Neera Tanden has also been appointed by Joe Biden to his economic team and is nominated to serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
