Pathsala: A man died while trying to save a 14-year-old girl from an oncoming train in Batua village of Assam’s Bajali district on Monday. Both were hit by the up-bound Sifung Express and died at the scene.
According to reports, the 14-year-old girl from Batua village was attempting to cross the railway track when the train approached. Alal Ali (45) reportedly rushed to rescue her, but both were struck by the speeding train before they could move to safety.
The incident has left the locality in shock. Police and Railway officials reached the spot and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Meanwhile, some local residents said the latest incident was not an isolated case. They claimed that another man died near the same railway stretch a few days ago without attempting to cross the tracks in Pathsala, Bajali district.
Residents also alleged that several people have died along the railway stretch over the years because many pedestrians use unofficial shortcuts to cross the tracks.
They urged the Railway authorities to install iron fencing on both sides of the railway line to prevent trespassing and direct people to designated crossing points.
They said such measures could help prevent similar accidents in the future.
