Speaker of the Assam assembly and Jorhat MLA, Hitendra Nath Goswami has said that the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) is considering a proposal to implement a project to supply water from the Brahmaputra to urban areas in Jorhat district.
Goswami announced this while speaking at a brief function organized here on Tuesday.

“The new water supply project to provide water from the Brahmaputra to urban areas is under consideration,” said Hitendra Nath Goswami.
“I am hopeful of getting a positive response from the PMO for the project worth Rs 160 crores,” he said.
Residents of several villages in Assam’s Jorhat district will be able to avail water from the Brahmaputra after a centrally funded water supply project becomes operational from next month.
“This ambitious project to supply water from the Brahmaputra to nearby villages has been implemented during the tenure of our government and it will become operational in January next year,” said Goswami .
“The water supply project will cater to areas under four village panchayats within the Jorhat assembly constituency,” he said.
The Jorhat MLA said that with the union government sanctioning a huge amount of funds for the region, large-scale development of infrastructure was taking place in the district, especially in terms of the development of roads.
Goswami said that areas under Jorhat Municipal Board would have concrete roads and repairing of the existing ones would be done within the next year.
A Rs 57-crore riverfront development and beautification project along the Bhogdoi river is also in the pipeline.
Goswami also said that with one rail over bridge nearing completion in Jorhat, the centre has sanctioned two more.
Assam PWD minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma will lay the foundation stone of a rail over bridge near the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) in Jorhat soon.
