Pathsala: Two recent incidents in Assam’s Pathsala, Bajali district, involving a daylight cash snatching and a rash driving accident, have raised concerns over public and road safety. Both incidents were captured on CCTV.
In the latest incident, motorcycle-borne snatchers allegedly stole Rs 5.40 lakh in cash from a man outside an HDFC Bank branch while he was on his way to deposit the money. The victim, Utpal Roy of Helona village, was targeted moments before entering the bank.
The accused fled with the cash on a motorcycle, and the incident was recorded on CCTV. Pathsala Police have started an investigation to identify and arrest the suspects.
In another incident reported a few days earlier, a Maruti Baleno (AS19L 7794), allegedly being driven rashly and negligently, hit a scooty from behind while moving along the extreme left side of the road. The incident was also captured on CCTV.
The collision threw one rider onto the road, while another rider was reportedly dragged for around 15 to 20 metres. His helmet is believed to have saved his life. The injured youth suffered multiple serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Pathsala Police have seized the car as part of the investigation, and the victim’s family has filed an FIR at Pathsala Police Station.
The two incidents, both occurring within a few days and captured on surveillance cameras, have increased concerns among residents over criminal activities, traffic violations and public safety in Pathsala.
Residents have urged authorities to strengthen traffic enforcement, improve surveillance and take strict action against offenders.
