Bajali: A journalist and a PNRD employee were injured after a speeding car allegedly rammed the scooty they were travelling on from behind in Assam’s Pathsala, once again raising concerns over rash driving by four-wheelers in the town.
According to the victims, the accident occurred on Wednesday night when journalist Sasangka Talukdar and Sidhartha Roy, an employee of the Panchayat and Rural Development (PNRD) Department, were travelling on a scooty.
A speeding Maruti Baleno bearing registration number AS19L 7794, allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, struck their two-wheeler from behind.
The impact threw both riders onto the road. Sidhartha Roy sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a nearby medical facility before being referred to a hospital in Guwahati for specialised treatment.
According to those present at the scene, Roy’s helmet is believed to have prevented even more serious head injuries.
The journalist also sustained injuries in the accident.
Speaking after the incident, one of the victims said, “Pathsala is a small town where many people walk along the roads, and light vehicles share the same carriageway due to the absence of service roads. Drivers should be extremely careful, and speed limits must be strictly enforced so that no one else has to suffer such an accident.”
Following the incident, residents have called for stricter monitoring of speeding vehicles, the installation of speed-calming measures, and improved enforcement of traffic regulations in Pathsala.
