A major mishap was averted on Friday when the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express caught fire near Fakiragram junction in western Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
According to reports, a coach of the train caught fire following which the railway staff detached it from the train.
Railway staff managed to bring the fire under control within a short time.
A group of NCC cadets, who were traveling on the train soon came to the rescue and helped evacuate the coach.
The NCC cadets under North East Directorate were from Dibrugarh to New Delhi for Republic Day Parade Camp.
The actions displayed by the cadets were highly appreciated by the passengers traveling on the train.
“Due to courage and timely intervention of the cadets, there was no casualty sustain by their fellow passengers,” said a passenger.
This life-saving task undertaken by the cadets, taking the risk is the result of disaster management training imparted to them in NCC which had come in handy in a real and practical situation, said an NCC official.
