The first day of Baresaharia Bhaona main drama was opened by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday. It was inaugurated by the Union Home Minister Rajnath singh on Thursday.
Opening the traditional Vaisnaviate culture here he said that 220 years old Barasaharia Bhaona Mahotsav in Jamugurihat is one of Assam’s greatest spiritual heritages and a unique celebration of cultural values taught by the Gurujonas Srimanta Xankardev.
He said that it is blessed by the Mahapuruash. The festival is observed by the people of Jamugurihat every 5 years in Sonitpur district.
He announced that, “We have announced Rs 26 crores for infrastructure development of the Baresaharia Bhaona Mahotsav which can become one of Assam’s foremost tourism attractions. I believe that ideals of harmony and cooperation of this community festival will help build a strong, developed Assam.”
Before opening the Bhaona, Sonowal paid tribute to martyrs at the Saptaswahid Bedi in front of the Bhaona site in the presence of multitudes of people. He also inaugurated the newly constructed inspection bungalow in the heart of Jamugurihat center.
Earlier Sonowal inaugurated the newly built Nagsankar Natya Bhawan in Nagsankar, Biswanath district. Bhawan established in 1969, is an important cultural center and has played a major role in promoting traditional art forms in the region.
Sonowal was accompanied by the State Cultural Minister, and Power and Revenue Minister Pallab Lochan Das and local MLA and President of Bhaona Padma Hazarika .
