Even as the United States is struggling with the dreaded coronavirus, a deadly rabbit virus is spreading across the southwestern part of the US.

Veterinarians have nicknamed the virus as ‘bunny Ebola’.

It is known as rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV2).

The virus has reportedly killed thousands of rabbits since April.

The virus is said to be highly contagious.

It causes severe internal bleeding in rabbits, hares and pikas.

Meanwhile, US veterinarians are importing rabbit vaccine from France and Spain.

The virus causes lesions in rabbits’ organs and tissues, which leads to internal bleeding and death.

The mortality rate from this virus infection is almost 100 per cent.

Till now there is no treatment for this deadly virus.
