With the increasing return of stranded persons from various parts of the country, Manipur water resources and youth affairs & sports minister Letpao Haokip toured various places of Chandel district on Tuesday to inspect the quarantine centres opened within the district for tackling COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Letpao, who is also the local MLA of Chandel Assembly Constituency, instructed officials concerned to be ready to go to any extent to provide security and quarantine facilities to them.
A review meeting to take stock of the various arrangements and steps taken up in the district was also attended by the minister at the Chandel Mini Secretariat as a part of the tour programme, a DIPR report said.
Letpao also visited the quarantine centre at JNV Campus, Liwa Sarei Khullen, Chandel where he met the officials and staff being manned at this centre.
A total of 54 persons, who had been recently evacuated from Guwahati, are being currently quarantined at the centre.
After chairing a review meeting at Chandel district headquarters, he along with the district deputy commissioner and sub-divisional officers inspected the quarantine centre being set up at the Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School, where those belonging to Chandel returning from outside by train will be quarantined.
Later, state sports minister and his team also visited St Joseph Higher Secondary School at Sugnu Hill Area and the Y Thingkangphai Government High School at Serou.
These centres are to accomodate people of Chandel who are expected to arrive from other parts.
After the inspection tour, the minister appealed to all to stick on to the medical protocols laid down by the government and those violating by running prematurely from quarantine period are punishable.
He also appreciated the district administration and the COVID-19 Response Force of the district for their relentless service in combating this global pandemic.
