Mass Communication and Journalism department of Tezpur University celebrated the World Radio Day on Tuesday, at the Screening Hall of the department.
World Radio Day is globally observed to remember the unique power of radio to touch lives and bring people together across every corner of the world.
During the daylong event, the students and faculty members of the department took part in various discussions regarding the role and existence of radio in day to day life.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Abhijit Bora, Head of the department said that despite the arrival of Internet, radio hasn’t lost its relevance and is still playing a crucial role in disseminating information and used as an entertainment tool.
Anchored by Mridusmita Chakraborty, an MA student of the department, the event witnessed presentation from two faculty members Dr P Anbarasan and Dr Joya Chakraborty.
Besides the faculties of the department, MA students Rimiana Baruah, Nidarshana Mahanta, Rinkumani Pathak, Sujit Bhattacharya, Vishal Upreti Sharma and Ankita Dutta also spoke on the occasion.
The World Radio Day is celebrated annually on February 13. The Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Assembly in 2011.
