In a ray of hope for the stray animals, a Dibrugarh based non-profit organization Animal Welfare People is taking out a drive to feed them during 21 days nationwide lockdown.

With the announcement of the lockdown, the stray animals, mostly dogs are having problems due to closure of shops and restaurants.

Mostly, the stray dogs depend on the hotels and restaurants to feed them.

But thanks to the yeoman service of the Animal Welfare People for their work to feed the straying animals.

Vineet Bagaria, founding president of Animal Welfare People said withr the 21-day nationwide lockdown, the stray animals, mostly the dogs are the worst sufferers because they depend on hotels and restaurants to feed themselves.

“We have started our drive to feed the animals during the 21 days lockdown. Till now, we have feed many stray dogs with biscuits, rice chicken and egg rice. We have taken out the drive at many places of Dibrugarh town. We take out our drive after 3 pm everyday to feed the animals. With our own resources we are feeding the poor animals,” said Vineet.

He said they have appealed everyone to come forward to feed the starving animals.

“Our organisation was formed in November 2018 and our main aim is to rescue the animals and feed the stray animals. Every Sunday, our members go out and feed the stray dogs. So far we have taken out many drives to feed the poor and hungry animals. It is our duty to feed them because they are also the part of our society. We have 45 members and on every Sunday we divide among us to feed the animals,” said Vineet Bagaria.

Vineet said they are getting help from the people through donations and some people are coming forward to help them.

“Actually I am an animal lover and I am doing the work with my own. After sometimes my friends came forward to help me to feed the animals. So far we have rescued over 400 dogs and cats in Dibrugarh,” he said.

“I feel it’s a noble cause to feed the starving animals. In this time of crisis we should provide food to the animals. The Dibrugarh people are conscious and coming forward to feed the animals,” Vineet said.
