All Assam Kalita Janagosthi Students’ Union (AAKJSU) has written to the Assam government demanding scholarship for the students after Banikanta Kakati.

In a letter, AAKJSU president Anupal Dutta Pathak said, “Students belonging to the Kalita community are highly educated but they have not got any government scholarship so far.”

“Since we come from the general caste, the Kalita students have been deprived of all the government facilities for ages,” Pathak added.

“So, we want a separate a scholarship scheme for the welfare of the students of Kalita Community,” Pathak reiterated.

In the letter, the AAKJSU also demanded 50 per cent reservation in all government jobs for the next 5 years.

The AAKJSU also demanded reservation in UPSC and APSC services for the Kalita candidates and requested the government to reserve at least two no of seats in UPSC & APSC.

They also demanded reservation of 40 per cent seats in medical and engineering colleges of Assam for the students belonging to the Kalita community.

The AAKJSU president further appealed the state government to extend the maximum age limit by 7 years from the existing 38 years for the candidates of Kalita Janagosthi for various government jobs in Assam.

Pathak further said the government must include the rich history of the Kalita Community in the curriculum of secondary education under Assam government.

“People must know the rich history and heritage of 70 lakh people of the community- the largest ethnic group of Northeast,” he added.

“For our political rights, we demand the reservation of 45 MLA seats, 4 Lok Sabah seats and three seats in Rajya Sabha,” Pathak added.

“We have been demanding ST status since 1988, however, the successive governments have ignored this demand,” Pathak added.
