Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of several ambitious projects under the City Infra Development Fund in Goalpara.
An e-commerce website developed by the administration was also unfurled by the chief minister.
The proposed projects include one stop centre ‘Sakhi’ to redress purported harassment subjected to women under union ministry of women and child empowerment, patients’ registration and waiting room at Goalpara Civil Hospital under WPTBC department.
The other projects include construction of bridges under Mahabir Lachit Aru Chilarai Setu Nirmaan Achoni, waiting room for ASHA workers at Lakhipur under NEC Development Fund, CSR projects funded by Indian Oil Corporation and a community radio station funded by the NEC.
Sonowal also launched an e-commerce website ‘Goalmart’ to promote sale of local products globally and distributed sewing machine to dibyang beneficiaries, power tillers to farmers, smart phones to Anganwadi workers.
The CM also formally inaugurated the services of Plastic Recycling and Shredding Machine introduced by Goalpara Municipal Board and presented awards to POSHAN clubs.
Sonowal sought people’s cooperation to implement the government schemes and progress the state.
The CM appealed to the people of the state to follow the ideologies of legendary artistes Bhupen Hazarika and Hemanga Biswas and work for communal harmony in the society.
“We should focus on the work of communal harmony like the way Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Hemanga Biswas did through their music and artistic creation,” said Sonowal in a meeting at Goalpara College playground.
“Progress is not possible without peace. Our aim is to bring progress to all the 3.30 crore people of the state without keeping any differences and that’s why peace is prevailing in the state,” said Sonowal.
Referring to the new road project proposals, the CM announced, “We have taken schemes to boost communication between Goalpara and South Salmara districts.”
Sonowal also appealed to the people for making friendship with the nature, indirectly referring to the man-elephant conflict in Goalpara district. “Learn to love nature, not to destroy it,” he said.
The CM also appealed to the young generation to learn how to save water.
“We don’t understand the value of water. Our Prime Minister has termed it as a holy gift. The new generation must understand the value of it,” he said.
The CM was all praise for the natural beauty of Goalpara district.
He said, “If we compare among the 33 districts of the state, Goalpara is the most beautiful place in Assam. Every time I come here, I enjoy its natural beauty. It has a rich cultural heritage, agricultural and tourism potentials.”
Earlier, the CM inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Agia Police Station under the ‘MOITRI’ scheme at Agia.
