Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said in the wake of development of science and technology and their multifarious manifestations, value based education has become important.

He also said Don Bosco educational institutions will have to play a vital role in imparting value education to its students.

He said this while inaugurating the Don Bosco College, the third of its kind in Assam after Diphu and Azara, at Chapaguri in Chirang district.

Chief minister Sonowal said that Don Bosco schools which have the expertise in the field of education for the last more than 100 years, will have to take the responsibility of rendering value education to its students.

He further said that in today’s world where there is a cut throat competition, students who have sound moral character can reach the last mile of success defeating all extraneous stimuli.

Sonowal said that Don Bosco educational institutions which have been spreading education among all sections of the people especially among the under privileged section, motivated by the philosophy of Saint John Bosco have a good history of helping students to inculcate sound moral character in them.

Referring to his own school days which he pursued in Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh, Sonowal said that the moral lessons and value based education he received from his school built a strong edifice of his life.

Terming the inauguration of Don Bosco College at Chirang as a red letter day, Sonowal said that the new college can churn the human resources of lower Assam areas and make them good citizens as well as good professionals.

Stating the Skill India, Digital India, Make in India, Stand up India Programmes launched under the bold leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sonowal said that Don Bosco educational institutions should make good uses of these programmes.

He also said these institutes would come forward to educate human resources of the country and create a name in the educational landscape.

Sonowal also sought it’s guidance and services to put India on a higher growth trajectory.

The programme which was presided over by Father Thomas Pulloppillil, Bishop of Bongaigaon Diocese was attended among others by social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma, tourism minister Chandan Brahma, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Salesian Provincial Father Januarius S Sangma, Father Alex Mathew, Principal Don Bosco College, Chapaguri, Father Sebastian Mathew, Principal Don Bosco school, Guwahati Panbazar and a host of other dignitaries.
