A college student, identified as Bishal Singh, was arrested by police on Monday night for posting a derogatory statement against Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on the social media.

However, Singh was granted bail by the Sabroom court on Tuesday evening.

Police filed a case against him under sections 294, 504, 500, 506 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Sources said Bishal Singh is a student of Maharaja Bir Bikram College, also known as MBB College.

The matter of Singh making some derogatory statements on the social media was brought to the notice of the Chief Ministers’ Office (CMO).

Singh was arrested by police after a case was from the CM’s office.

As soon as the issue came to the notice of the CMO, the entire police administration became active to find out the accused.

The cyber cell of Tripura Police later traced the location of Bishal Singh and a team of Sabroom PS arrested Singh from his home at Sabroom on Monday night.

A team of cyber cell went to Sabroom on Tuesday morning to investigate the matter.

He was produced before Sabroom court which granted him bail.

Sources said, “Bishal is a BJP worker but he made some derogatory statements on the CM after the government imposed fees on medical facilities in hospitals.”

On Tuesday evening, Congress leader Subal Bhowmik in a press conference condemned the arrest and said the BJP is running an ‘autocratic government’.

He alleged at least 400 people were detained by the police since the last few months for either criticizing the CM or government decisions. Subal Bhowmik also told that never happened earlier in the state.
