Along with the rest of the country, a month-long celebration for ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ under the flagship programme, ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ began in Assam’s Sivasagar district from September 1 last.
The observation of Rashtriya Poshan Maah aims at improving the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pergnant women and lactating mothers.

With a view to finalize the list of events and programmes for Rashtriya Poshan Maah, the district convergence committee meeting cum preparatory meeting was held under the chaimanship of the district development commissioner Joonmoni Sonowal on Tuesday at Sukafa Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
The district social welfare officer Dipali Devi explained the objective of the meeting which was jointly organized by the Sivasagar district administration and the district social welfare department.
After threadbare discussion over the list of events and programmes lined up for observing the Maah in a fruitful manner, the meeting finalized the list.
During her speech, the district development commissioner stated that besides creating mass awareness on importance of nutrition, this month-long celebration will definitely have a positive impact on improving the nutritional status of the children, adolescent girls, pergnant women and lactating mothers.
She called on all the line departments to work in proper co-ordination and renewed zeal so that Poshan Abhiyan turns out to be a Jana Andolan or “People’s Movement” in the district.
During the meeting, the district development commissioner also administered a pledge on nutrition.
