Police on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife and one and half-year-old child at Barbaruah in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh.

Police said that during interrogations accused Dimbeshwar Murah revealed that he burnt his wife and little child in a fit of rage following a squabble.

According to police, around 1.30 pm on Monday a case was reported at Barbaruah police station that one woman killed his child by setting him on fire and subsequently committed suicide by burning herself.

“We reached the spot and started investigation and apprehended the husband for interrogation. After interrogation, the husband revealed that he killed his wife Arati Murah, 21, and her son,” said Monuj Boruah, officer in charge of Barbaruah police station.

He said that family squabble was the reason behind the murder. “We have registered a case at Barbaruah police station and sent the bodies for post mortem at Assam Medical College and Hospital,” the police officer said.

Locals said Dimbeshwar was an alcoholic and every day after returning home from work he abused his wife without any reason.

“Dimbeshwar used to have fight with his wife almost every day. He tortured his wife regularly. Yesterday similar fight took place between them and Dimbeswar set ablaze his wife and child to death,” said police.
