Even after 24 hours of the recovery of the body of 21-year-old Adivasi girl in Dibrugarh, police have yet to arrest the culprits involved in the alleged rape and murder of the girl.
The body of the Adivasi girl was found by the workers at Barbaruah Tea Estate in Dibrugarh on Saturday.
The family members and locals alleged that the girl was raped before she was murdered.
The victim used to work as a house maid in the staff quarters at the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) township here.
Lakhindra Kurmi, publicity secretary of Assam Tea tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA) said, “Even after 24 hours of the incident, police have failed to nab the culprits. It is very unfortunate.”
“The government has failed to provide security to the women. The crime has done just few metres away from National Highway. We condemned the incident and urged the police to immediately arrest the culprits,” he added.
According to her family, the girl came out of her residence situated at No 3 Line of Barbaruah tea estate at around 6.30 am on Saturday to proceed for her work.
Like everyday she went through the No 5 line of the garden which was a short cut to her place of work.
At around 8.30 am some labourers noticed the body, with a noose tied around her neck, lying among the tea bushes in No 5 line.
The fancy members have lodged an FIR at Barbaruah police station alleging rape and murder.
Monuj Boruah, officer in charge of Barbaruah police station said, “We are investigating the case. No arrest has been made so far. The body was sent for post mortem.”
