Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi does not believe that Assam would get an error-free National Register of Citizens (NRC) on August 31.
“There are several incidents where genuine Indian citizens’ names were not included in the draft NRC.” said Gogoi while talking to media on Saturday.

“There are also reports of names of foreigners’ included in the NRC,” Gogoi added.
Gogoi also said, “In the Assembly, BJP legislators are now questioning the NRC process, which means that they doubt the government of India, which is involved in the NRC update process.
“I had doubt about the NRC but now I am convinced that it will not be error-free,” Gogoi asserted.

Slamming the BJP-led government both at the Centre and the state, Gogoi said the BJP came to power assuring to make Assam free from foreigners.
“I want to ask them as to how many foreigners have been detected and deported in the last five years,” Gogoi said.

The former Assam chief minister said, “Earlier, the BJP-led government was satisfied with the NRC work. But suddenly they are finding it erroneous.”
“Why has chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal not taken up with the union ministry of home affairs if it is not satisfied with the NRC work?” Gogoi questioned.
