Even as Israel continued bombing Gaza, the Hamas released two Israeli women hostages on Monday (October 23) evening.

The two women were freed for “compelling humanitarian” reasons following mediation by Qatar and Egypt, the Hamas’ military wing said.

The two released hostages also include 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz.

Lifshitz was released alongside 79-year-old Nurit Cooper on Monday (October 23) night, The Guardian reported.

The two women were taken hostages by the Hamas militia on October 07 – the first day of the war – along with their husbands.

The husbands of the two women, who are 83 and 84, were not released.

“While I cannot put into words the relief that she is now safe, I will remain focused on securing the release of my father and all those – some 200 innocent people – who remain hostages in Gaza,” Lifshitz’s daughter, Sharone Lifschitz, said in a statement.

On Tuesday (October 24), Yocheved Lifshitz said that the Hamas treated the hostages well.

“Each person had a guard watching him or her. They took care of all the needs. They talked about all kinds of things, they were very friendly,” Yocheved Lifshitz said while detailing what it was like while being held hostage by Hamas.

However, it must also be noted that Lifshitz might have spoken well about Hamas, just because of the fact that her husband is still being held captive by the outfit.
