Imphal: Indiaโs security forces, during anti-insurgency operations along Manipurโs border with Myanmar, arrested three insurgent cadres belonging to the proscribed Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK) and PREPAK (Progressive) groups in separate operations.
Subsequently, PREPAK denied any affiliation with one of the suspects.
Security forces in Manipur arrested three active cadres of Valley-Based Insurgent Groups (VBIGs) in separate operations.
During an operation on Friday near Border Pillar 81 under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district, forces arrested two active insurgents.
They were identified as Ningthoujam Thourangba alias Dingku alias Goro (29) of Heirok in Thoubal district (a cadre of PREPAK-Progressive) and Ahongshangbam Momocha Singh alias Paikhomba (20) of Imphal West (PREPAK).
In a separate operation, security personnel apprehended an active PREPAK cadre, Thangjam Nganba Meetei alias Inao alias Leishabi (23) of Khurai Konsam Leikai, from Sawombung Khunjao in Imphal East district.
Authorities seized a four-wheeler and other incriminating items from his possession.
Following the arrests, PREPAK issued a statement clarifying that Thangjam Nganba Meetei is not associated with their organisation or its armed wing, the Red Army (RA).
