Assam cricketer Uma Chetry felicitated

Dibrugarh: Indian womenโ€™s cricketer and Assamโ€™s pride Uma Chetry was felicitated by the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) on Friday during her visit to the city to participate in the ongoing Liberty Cup Womenโ€™s T20 Cricket Tournament.

The felicitation ceremony was held at the office of the Sarbananda Sonowal Sports Project under the Dibrugarh District Sports Association.

DDSA President Niranjan Saikia, General Secretary Kamakhya Saikia, Executive President Manas Jyoti Dutta, and Cricket Secretary Abdul Rahman accorded a warm welcome to Chetry with traditional Assamese honours, including a gamosa, cheleng chador, traditional muga attire, and bouquets.

The association also conveyed its best wishes for her continued success in national and international cricket.

Speaking on the occasion, Uma Chetry expressed happiness at playing at DDSAโ€™s Jalan Outdoor Stadium and praised the venueโ€™s infrastructure and sporting facilities. She noted that the stadium provides an excellent environment for players and contributes significantly to the development of the sport.

Representatives of tournament organiser Empower NGO also felicitated Chetry during the programme.

Officials led by Imdad Ahmed presented her with a citation, traditional Assamese gifts, and mementoes in recognition of her achievements.

The event was attended by representatives of the Dibrugarh Press Club, Dibrugarh Studentsโ€™ Association, Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, and Dibrugarh Yuva Samaj, all of whom extended their greetings and appreciation to the international cricketer.

The programme was conducted by Bipul Chutia, Secretary of the Athletics Department of DDSA, and was attended by sports administrators, journalists, and cricket enthusiasts, making it a memorable occasion celebrating one of Assamโ€™s leading sporting icons.
