Guwahati: Two from Assam were reportedly arrested by the Punjab Police in connection with an ongoing digital arrest scam.
As per reports, the accused were nabbed by a Punjab Police team from Kamrup in Assam.

The accused were identified as Najrul Ali and Midul Ali, both residents of Kamrup district in Assam.

The police said that they were arrested based on an ongoing investigation into a scam where an elderly man was duped of Rs 76 lakh recently.

The 76-year-old retired officer was duped of Rs 76 lakhs by the accused posing as Mumbai Cyber Crime officials.
They allegedly placed the man under a fake “Digital Arrest” via WhatsApp and then duped them off over Rs 76 lakh.

The gang is suspected to be involved in 11 cases worth Rs 15 crore across seven states.
The police said that they investigated the IP logs used by the accused to dupe victims which showed that they originated from Cambodia and Hong Kong.
However, on further decoding the IP logs and servers, the police traced two suspects in Assam.
It was alleged that the suspects used remote locations to dupe unsuspecting victims.
