In a matter of grave concern, Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi’s statue was vandalised in a park at California in the United States.

The 6-feet tall and 294 kg bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalized by unknown miscreants in a park in the city of Davis in California.

According to local police, the vandalised statue was found by the employees of the park on January 27.

This incident has shockwaves across the globe.

Indian-Americans residing in the US have demanded for a thorough investigation into the incident as “it appears to be an incident of hate crime”.

Meanwhile, the Indian Government, while condemning the vandalisation of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi informed that it has taken a serious note of the issue.

The Indian Embassy in the United States has raised the issue with the authorities in US.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Anurag Srivastava said, “Our Embassy and Consulate have taken this up with US authorities who condemned the act and initiated an investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest.”

The statue was donated by the Indian government which was installed by the city council four years ago amidst protests from anti-Gandhi and anti-India organisations.
