Asha Devi, the mother of the 23-year-old Nirbhaya, finally succeeded in getting justice for her daughter after fighting a long legal battle of more than seven years.
After the hanging of the four accused – Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh Singh – in Tihar Jail at 5.30 am on Friday, Asha Devi said they had, at last, got justice even though it has been delayed.
Speaking to the media, Asha Devi said March 20 would be remembered as a day in the honour of the country’s girls and women.

She thanked the judiciary and the government for helping in getting justice for her daughter.
“Women will now feel safe and families will start teaching their boys that the punishment for such a crime will be severe,” media reports quoted Asha Devi as saying.
She also said she will continue her fight for the rights of rape victims, survivors and their families.

Asha Devi also said she is proud to be known as Nirbhaya’s mother and had hugged her daughter’s photo after justice had finally been served.
Meanwhile, citizens had been praising Asha Devi’s lawyer Seema Kushwaha, who had been giving her best to ensure justice for her clients in spite of facing several difficulties.
Speaking to the media, she said, “The way they had convicted the heinous crime, even animals don’t do such crimes. Since that day, I had decided that I will bring justice to her. I am satisfied that I accomplished what I had decided.”
