A media Sensitization Workshop on Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was organized by District Health & Family Welfare Society at the conference hall of Dharmanagar on Thursday.

Tripura government is all set to launch mass scale Measles and Rubella (MR) immunization programme across the state from September 15 for a month to vaccinate more than 10 lakhs children in the age group between nine months and 15 years.

Addressing a press conference here the officials said that MR vaccine would be provided free of cost in the schools, social institutions and other facilitation centers across the state as per the mission to eliminate measles and control rubella disease by 2020 in India.

While measles is an acute viral infection spread via respiratory secretions and aerosols and complications and mortality is highest among the children age of less than two years and adult. Rubella is a mild, self limiting viral illness.

Total beneficiary in the district (9 months to 15 years) is 1,18,006.  Vaccination will also be carried out at the 6 Bru refugee camps too.

The aim of organizing this media workshop is to create awareness and eliminate Measles-Rubella (MR).
