Congress MP from Assam’s Autonomous District constituency, Biren Sing Engti said he is ready to contest the Lok Sabha elections 2019 if the party offers him ticket.
Engti said if the leaders and workers of the Congress party wish that he should contest the elections, he will surely do it.
As per media reports, the Congress is planning to field the senior Congress leader from the Autonomous District constituency.
Engti, who was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India, was born in Karbi Anglong in the year 1945.
Many of the AGP leaders of Dima Hasao district recently joined the BJP in presence of Dima Hasao BJP president Nipolal Hojai and other senior BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, Mukut Kumar Saikia, the returning officer of Karbi Anglong, said the district is gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls, which will commence on April 11 next.
There are 424 polling stations in Diphu and Howraghat election districts.
Out of the total 424 polling stations, Howraghat ST LAC has 166 polling stations and Diphu ST LAC has 258 polling stations.
“There are two model polling stations as per EC norms and guidelines. Under 18 Howraghat ST LAC, the model polling station is 69 Parokhuwa Higher Secondary School (Left Wing) and under 19 Diphu ST LAC, it is 198 Diphu Town LP School,” said Saikia.
The Autonomous District Lok Sabha constituency of Assam, which is currently being represented by Biren Sing Engti, is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state.
The Autonomous District Lok Sabha constituency consists of two autonomous districts namely Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong.
This Lok Sabha constituency, which covers a vast hilly areas, is home to various tribal groups like Karbi, Dimasa, Kuki, Biate, Hmar and Naga.
The Assembly segments under the Autonomous District Lok Sabha constituency are Howraghat; Haflong, district headquarters of Dima Hasao; Baithalangso, Bokajan and Diphu, the district constituency of Karbi Anglong district.
